In line with the new government advice this week, our face-to-face day-time Chaplains & night-time Street Angels services remain suspended. We will keep reviewing the situation and hope to be back in in the New Year. We are able to chat and listen over the 'phone or via email so please do get in touch with us if you would like to speak to a Chaplain or if you have any prayer needs. We have a group of dedicated prayer supporters who pray for us each week, and include any requests we receive (without passing on identifying information).
From 18th August 2020 we have slowly & safely begun to resume some of our services. We have day-time Chaplains out and about in the town centre only at the moment, and our first Street Angel team will be out on Saturday 29th August 2020.
We have carefully studied all the available guidance and have put in place practices and policies to aim to keep our volunteers and those they meet as safe as possible. This does mean that they may not be able to help in all the ways they would normally do, but be assured that their presence, prayers, listening and encouragement remain as strong as ever.
We can still also offer 'phone chaplaincy if anyone wishes for a longer chat with one of our chaplains - contact us via office@aylesburytownchaplaincy.co.uk if you'd like this.
We've published our 2019 Annual Report. You can view it here
At this difficult time we realise you may still wish to speak to a Chaplain. We can listen and signpost over the 'phone. If you would like a Chaplain to call you please email office@aylesburytownchaplaincy.co.uk with your name and contact number, and we'll arrange for a Chaplain to call you back as soon as we can. Date posted: 24/03/2020
Due to the recent advice from HM Government relating to avoiding non-essential social gatherings and practicing 'social distancing' we have taken the decision to suspend our services - Chaplains, Street Angels and Healing On The Streets teams. This will be for at least 4 weeks, but we will continue to review & follow governmental advice & guidelines. We should be able to offer a limited 'remote' service if you should wish to talk with a Chaplain, please email office@aylesburytownchaplaincy.co.uk with your name & contact number. We will arrange for one of our Chaplains to call you back, but please be patient as this may not be immediately. Date Posted: 17th March 2020.
Our friends at the CNI network have put together this amazing booklet which explains what CNI do, how they help local churches and projects and the vast variety of activities going on in this area around the country. Definitely worth a read

Our highlights are shown in this 'infogram':
We're encouraging people to get out in Aylesbury on Sunday 9th October 2016 to pray for our town and for the work of the Chaplaincy. This is a self-guided walk at a time to suit you. Follow the link for the map with prayer notes.
We've recently published our Annual Report for 2015. Here are some of the highlights:
We've recently been welcomed at the Bucks County Council offices in Aylesbury, and at Aylesbury Vale District Council's Gateway. Adebola is the Chaplain at Bucks County Council and is available on a weekly basis to chat with staff and visitors and act as a listening ear. Steve is the Chaplain at AVDC, again on a weekly basis.
In both places the Chaplains are settling in, getting to know people and learning more about the organisations. Thank you to all involved at those Councils for welcoming us there.
We have been delighted to work with Gill and the team at Morrisons, Aylesbury to offer a Chaplain to their staff and customers. From the beginning of March 2016 Edna will be available at the store - one week in the cafe and one week in the staff canteen - to be a listening ear and friendly support to all who work or shop in the store.
On Saturday 27th February our new 'safe place' was launched. Once a month initially, we have the use of a van parked at the top of the Market Square. It is manned by a team of Street Angels who will stay in that area, while another team patrol around the town centre as usual. At the van people will be able to wait with our team for a lift or to meet up with friends or can be looked after by the Street Angels there. The van will be equipped with all the usual stuff (flip flops, lollies, sick bags, space blankets) we use, but is a space to keep more supplies and additional items which may be useful to people.
We're really grateful to the Town Centre Manager, Diana Fawcett, for fulling supporting this initiative including arranging a grant from AVDC. We have also been supported in this by Thames Valley Police, Aylesbury Town Council and Bucks County Council as well as Aylesbury Vale Youth for Christ (for discounted van hire).
Here are a couple of photos from our first night out
We found out earlier in December 2015 that we had been awarded two grants; one from Aylesbury Town Council's Grants Committee and the other from The Rothschild Foundation's Bucks Small Grants Programme. Our staff and trustees thank all involved in both organisations for their support for our work in this way.
On 31 July Street Angels in Magaluf featured on BBC's Newsnight programme. You can watch the item on Youtube here
Catherine & Mark were interviewed in summer 2015 about the work of the Chaplains. Here they're speaking to Dan Gooding from Mix 96 about our Chaplains (copyright for this audio recording remains with Mix96).

During the last couple of months we held a couple of training evenings. Our volunteers have welcomed the opportunity to learn more which helps them as they serve the people of Aylesbury as Chaplains or Street Angels.
In January we welcomed Roger & Karen from HopeUK who ran an interactive and informative session about drugs awareness, and last week we welcomed (another) Karen from Aylesbury Homeless Action Group, and Paul & Jean Blakey from the national Christian Nighttime Initiative. We heard about issues and help for people without a home in Aylesbury and also many inspiring stories of street angels and other similar projects across the UK.

During 2015 the Street Angels-Christian Night-time Initiative (SA-CNI) network will be celebrating 20:15:10 - 20 years of projects in Scotland, 15 years of projects in Northern Ireland and 10 years of projects in England. In October Mark & Catherine joined people from projects up and down the UK at a networking event in Lambeth Palace. This marked the launch both of 20:15:10 and the 'Volunteers Are Amazing' Thank you booklets, which will be distributed to all the volunteers in SA-CNI network projects during 2015.

On 18 October 2014 15 of our volunteers met together for a day's training in the peaceful location of Weedon Methodist Church. Sessions included drug awareness, listening skills and working in a multi-faith society. It was a really positive day and part of our ongoing programme of training for both Chaplains and Street Angels. Thank you to all who helped make it happen.
As part of their 'Big Tour' to locations across their region BBCThreeCounties radio was in Aylesbury on Friday 29th August. Catherine Turnbull-Ross and Nicki (one of our Street Angels volunteers) were interviewed live during the programme and were able to explain about the work of Aylesbury Town Chaplaincy's Street Angels.

A big thank you to the Thames Valley Police & Crime Commissioner, Anthony Stansfeld, and Chief Constable Sara Thornton.
Aylesbury Town Chaplaincy was successful in securing a grant of £1,650 which will help us support the work of our Street Angels. This is part of the annual awarding of funds from the Police Property Act Fund for 2014/15 administered by the PCC & the Chief Constable. This year over 60 organisations across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire & Oxfordshire were supported in this way.
Over 80 people came along to help us celebrate the work of our volunteer Chaplains & Street Angels. They were able to hear from several speakers, including Andrew Blyth (our chair of trustees), Mark Knight (our chaplains & street angels co-ordinator), Paul Blakey (founder & CEO of SA-CNI), Krish Kandiah (Evangelical Allliance), Gill O'Toole (volunteer Street Angel) & Margaret Spry (volunteer Chaplain), about how this type of work makes a difference within our community and up and down the country. Many joined us afterwards for cake.
Here are some photos from the event (courtesy of Maurice Cousins & Catherine Turnbull-Ross)

With effect from March 2014 one of our volunteer Chaplains, Jenny, will be placed within Aylesbury College, one day a week. She will be available to chat and be a friendly, confidential, listening ear to all students and staff there. This is a new venture between Aylesbury Town Chaplaincy and Aylesbury College and reflects a desire on both sides to build and support the community there.
Two teams of Street Angels were out and about in Aylesbury on New Year's Eve,
providing practical help to those enjoying themselves, handing chocolates and enjoying the atmosphere as everyone welcomed in 2014.
Thank you to the South Midlands Area Committee of the Co-operative Membership Community Fund. They have awarded us a grant of over £1,000 to allow us to recruit, equip & train 10 new volunteers over the coming months. This is much appreciated and will enable us to expand the coverage of both chaplains & street angels that we offer. For more information about the fund see www.co-operative.coop/communityfund
On 25 November 2013 the Chaplaincy was one of many organisations invited to be part of 'Growing Together', Aylesbury Vale Local Strategic Partnership's community cohesion networking and learning together event. We heard from many groups from both the charity and local authority sectors who are working together within the Vale. We were able to share the work of the Chaplaincy and show our short film about the work of the Chaplaincy for the first time.
Some of our volunteers helped as stewards as Aylesbury's Christmas Lights were switched on, on Thursday 21st November 2013. It was a great, happy evening and the lights and decorations give the town a really festive feel.
The Trustees, Catherine & Mark recently welcomed many of our volunteers and family members to tea & cakes as a thank you for all they do during the year. This was a great time for sharing stories and meeting each other (sometimes for the first time). We're hoping to make this an annual event as our team continues to grow.
From October 2013 we've had sufficient volunteers to be able to cover both a Friday & a Saturday night on at least one weekend a month. Thank you to all our volunteers and supporters for helping to make this happen. Our next 'double' will be at the end of November.
At Church in the Park on Sunday 1st September 2013 the work of Aylesbury Town Chaplaincy was celebrated. Many of our volunteers and trustees joined Mark and Catherine on the stage to share what has been happening and launch the Friends of Aylesbury Town Chaplaincy.
For more information on the Friends scheme contact us .
We are extremely grateful to Aylesbury Town Council, who recently awarded us a grant. This money will be used to equip our Street Angels enabling them to offer practical help to many more people.

We now have a Local Giving web page. Thank you to Bucks Community Foundation for helping us with this. https://localgiving.com/aylesburytownchaplaincy
Aylesbury Town Chaplaincy is now part of the CNI (Christian Nightlife Initiative) network. This was set up by Paul Blakey MBE the founder of Street Angels in Halifax; once this project started people wanted to find out more and a network was created to help to share ideas and experiences and support people in setting up their projects. Find out more at www.sa-cni.org.uk.
On 20th April, 12 people were able to join Mark & Catherine at the Team Training day. We covered a lot of ground, including First Aid, Confidentiality and Keeping Safe on the Streets. Thank you to everyone who prepared and led sessions. We also enjoyed lunch together. It was a great opportunity to meet each other, and plan to hold this at least once a year. Our chairman, Andrew Blyth, closed the day with an overview of the the Chaplaincy and our vision & plans for the future. .
All our volunteers are invited to attend a team fellowship and refresher training day during April 2013. Our volunteer numbers have increased from 1 (in July 2012) to 18 (representing 11 of the town’s churches), and this is a great opportunity for us all to get to know one another, share experiences and knowledge.
Since January, Street Angels have been out on the streets on some Saturday nights. Following information and feedback from local police, doormen and others we were asked to consider going out on Saturday nights as well as or instead of Fridays, because these are much busier in Aylesbury. At the moment we can cover one of these nights each weekend, but as the teams expand will be able to cover both.
